Sustainability

Our approach for SDGs

Our initiatives

Through our reason of existence, “supporting Japan’s food and agriculture industries and pursuing the stability and potential of our diet through technology,” we continue to cherish traditions, challenge ourselves to transformations, and maximize contributions to business partners and society and the work satisfaction of our employees so that we can continue to support the dietary lifestyle of people. Our never-ending endeavors include providing raw food ingredient processing technologies that we’ve been developing since our inception as products and services that have even higher added values; promoting manufacturing that considers the environment and natural resources; and working with local communities to materialize sustainable agriculture. We promote SDGs under the following five themes.

Initiatives for environmental conservation and against limate change

To conserve the earth’s environment, which can be said to be the greatest challenge of our society, Meiji Machine takes climate change initiatives related to CO2 emissions reduction and resource recycling. In addition to reducing environmental load through these measures, we also contribute to environmental conservation through our business such as the expansion of sales of thermal insulation paint products that contribute to energy-saving.

Contribution to food, agriculture, and livestock

Meiji Machine has been manufacturing food processing machines and engineering plants for 120 years since its inception and has been deepening trust relationship with not only the food industry but also with its producers (i.e., agriculture and livestock industries). Japan faces a wide range of issues related to food, agriculture, and livestock, such as need for increasing in food self-sufficiency rate; worker shortage; aging workers; food safety, and hygiene. To solve these challenges, Meiji Machine provides technologies and contributes to the development of sustainable agriculture and food industries.

Technological innovations that resolve social issues

Attention is gathering on smart plants built using digital technologies such as IoT and AI as a model for sustainable industrial growth through ICT in an era of declining population. Meiji Machine develops smart technologies that improve food plant productivity, such as a system that captures data in real time through IoT sensors and sends them to the cloud to be analyzed by AI so that the findings are reflected back to the manufacturing site.

Fostering next-generation manufacturing talents

The manufacturing sites of manufacturing companies face certain challenges related to lack of successors and mentors, succession of technology, etc. To resolve these issues, Meiji Machine contributes to the fostering of next-generation talents and succession of technology, such as by launching a test center equipped with actual machines at our Ashikaga Office and creating opportunities for local residents to experience the manufacturing process.

Our work environment and employee health

To materialize a sustainable society and continue business, it is indispensable to maximize and leverage the capacities of a wide range of talents. To encourage our employees to work proactively with high motivation, we establish a pleasant work environment, foster talents, cultivate a culture of taking on challenges, promote diversity and inclusion, establish an employee safety and health management system, etc.
